I photographed the only one I could find.

This is the third book I made.
I covered it with newspaper that my friend had wrapped a gift in for me. The rainbow card is card stock that I had (mum used to get a LOT of samples, so I use the samples for most card related things)
Photographed it in my hand for a size comparison. That said I have small hands.

Coptic bound, reflex/printer paper, hard cardboard, charcoal embroidery thread, newspaper (assumed chinese) and card stock.
Handmade by me.

very nice for a third book. if you hadnt mentioned it being your third one might think you had done many more of them.
very pretty and well made(this coming from the son of a book binder, and one who has made many books by hand) :D

Thankyou so much!
I'm lucky that I'm good with paper (My mum is a designer which has ensured that I have a love of paper)

Ah, there's a shop called T2 in Australia, that wraps gifts it in it.
There's a high density of chinese folks in the area where the shop she got it from is here.
I'm sure if you go to china town or somewhere you could get a chinese/japanese newspaper.

Nice!

I like the colors and the thought behind reinforcing the backs of the signatures like that. It really makes the spine more attractive when it would other wise just be blaaaa.

I also like the way you alternated the depth of the threads in the cover. Another nice accent. I see that the thread is "biting" into the cover though. Perhaps a thin strip of that card stock might stop this?

I also really like the foreign text print on the cover. You said chinese, but I think any foreign script (like Hindu) or picture based script (like the asian languages) would make a very attractive covering material. A note here if you did not do it, you should seal the material, with an artists sealer used for drawings. Newspapers especially are not coated and the ink WILL rub off, especially if it gets wet. I would seal the entire sheet before you start wrapping it around the book boards. It would be a pain to do afterwards.

I like the way the signatures are not all even. this gives it a very nice "handmade" look and feel. If you should want to I can show you how to either punch your signature holes more accurately, or trim the finished signatures if you want a smoother look. Note me I'd be more than happy to show you and I dont use any expensive tools. All of my tools were made by me, so you wont have to fork out a lot of cash.

Very nice for only your 3rd book!
